The Natural History Collections Portal
natural history collections portal
This portal searches natural history specimens in collections worldwide using the DiGIR protocol. To find out more about DiGIR, visit the DiGIR website. If you would like to make your collections data available through this website you may register a new data source.

Register a new data source

1. First you must install a DiGIR Provider for your collection (see DiGIR website)

2. Once you have a DiGIR Provider running, send the following information in an email to jdeck@socrates.berkeley.edu:

  • The URL of your DiGIR.php installation (e.g. http://bnhm.berkeley.museum/DiGIR/DiGIR.php)
  • A text description of your provider (e.g. Berkeley Natural History Museums)
  • The name of each resource as it appears in your resources.xml file
  • A text description of each resource (e.g. Amphibian Collections)
  • What group you want your resource to be included with (see list of groups in drop-down list on homepage)
  • Return to Homepage

This site was built using PHP DiGIR Portal (PDP), a simple DiGIR portal built entirely with PHP. This is based mainly on DiGIRm (a socket-based back-end to DiGIR providers written by Dave Vieglais at Kansas University) and extended by John Deck at Berkeley Natural History Museums. This portal connects to a variety of DiGIR providers across natural history collections.
